CMPC is recognized at the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Event (EtMDay) for the great work it does with local suppliers

More than 1,700 local entrepreneurs today are part of the ecosystem that CMPC promotes in the territories where it operates, which was recognized during the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Event held in Concepción to reward companies that promote the local economic development of small entrepreneurs.

Twenty percent of the purchases made this year by CMPC will be acquired from local entrepreneurs in communities where the company has operations, which translates into ongoing work with more than 1,700 enterprises, associated with different lines of business, such as maintenance, food, transport, the forestry industry, and more.

This work was recognized at the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Event known as EtMDay. This is the second edition and was held in Concepción. It brought together large companies and small entrepreneurs in an opportunity to connect a production chain that seeks to enhance local economies.

CMPC Manager of Strategic Relationship of Suppliers Santiago Marín received the recognition on behalf of the company, saying “We seek to promote the local development of the territories where we conduct operations. Therefore, we are systematizing our efforts with local suppliers to buy their products and services. Furthermore, we have developed guidelines for assessing new opportunities for improving SMEs and designing training and accompaniment programs to help them grow sustainably over time,” he said.

Daniel Dacarett, from the Emprende Tu Mente Foundation, explained the education provided by CMPC. “The company in Laja invited me to a zoom talk at the end of the pandemic. One of the programs that CMPC set up was for its own divisions to buy locally, which I find remarkable. I’ve learned from the company and replicated it elsewhere,” he said.
The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Event brings together more than 4,000 entrepreneurs. Its main purpose is to promote opportunities between small and large companies to generate a value chain for the territories.

Santiago Marín also participated by giving a presentation in the panel discussion called “Local markets for global industries” in which they analyzed the experiences of three large companies around the working with entrepreneurs. On this occasion he gave an account of how the Local Supplier Development Program seeks to empower small entrepreneurs, build shared value in surrounding communities, and accompany and measure the socio-economic impact they generate in each of the territories.

This program was created so that CMPC can enhance the concrete contribution of sustainable socio-economic development of the communities where it operates under a management model based on the creation of shared value. A successful first “pilot” version has already been executed with 14 local companies from the Regions of Biobío and La Araucanía. The company is currently running a second version with 100 companies in 20 districts in 7 different regions of Chile (RM, Maule, Ñuble, Biobío, La Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos).
