CMPC states that the intentional nature of the fires must be addressed and announces it has lodged official complaints.
In an interview with El Mercurio, CEO of CMPC Celulosa Francisco Ruiz-Tagle said: “We are dealing with an absolutely unprecedented situation in terms of the quantity of fires and resulting damages, especially in the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Regions.” He argues that “what most concerned us is that the recent fires are not caused by nature. They are entirely man-made either through negligence or intention. This means taking on the serious task of preventing them in the future, and this falls to society as a whole including the government, private companies, universities, schools and more.”
