CMPC strengthens the development of non-profit organizations, thanks to a Competitive Grant

More than 1,576 community projects have been financed in the last six years, thanks to CMPC support. The Company has just launched the seventh edition of its Competitive Grant in the Collipulli district.

Non-profit organizations from 42 districts, in six regions can apply for the seventh edition of the CMPC 2022 Competitive Grant, which was presented to the communities in a ceremony held at the Collipulli House Museum, in the Araucanía Region.

This initiative has already financed a total of 1,576 projects in a way that enables the organizations themselves to prioritize what their own needs, said Ignacio Lira, CMPC Corporate Affairs Manager. “Our goal is to promote the development of the communities with which we permanently interact, which is why we’re very proud to present the seventh edition of the CMPC Competitive Grant for funding sustainable community projects created by the organizations themselves,” he said.

Mayor of Collipulli Manuel Macaya recognized the company’s commitment to strengthening organizations. “I am proud once again to express my thanks that this fund has been launched in our district. As I’ve always said, CMPC is one of the few companies that plays a social role in our area, for example, by launching this social fund today in benefit of all non-profit organizations.”
This fund aims to help develop organizations, be they community, functional, territorial or indigenous, that promote projects that benefit the majority of our residents. The main areas are community infrastructure, environment and innovation, with the requirement that it go to benefit the majority of residents.

KEY PLAYERS

President of the Joint Union of the Neighborhood Committees of Collipulli Claudia Gutiérrez has been a beneficiary of this fund, for example, to provide community alarms and hygiene kits in her area. Now, to apply once again. “I think this is great because they’re giving all organizations an opportunity to participate and grow. This year I want to apply for the perimeter fencing and window protectors for our community headquarters. I give them a 10 out of 10 because the fund has helped all of these organizations get resources.”
Meanwhile, Ximena Oñate of the Trinar de Espuelas de Nacimiento cueca [Chilean traditional music and dance] club, in which 52 boys and girls 5 to 20 years of age participate: “The Competitive Grant is magical because it has helped us acquire additional clothing and to travel. For us this is the hope of achieving things for the future, because the clothes are saved for the upcoming generations, so these are investments that we value,” he said.

THE GRANT’S HISTORY

The CMPC Fund started in 2016, with the purpose of improving the quality of life of the neighbors near the company’s industrial plants and forestry operations. That year it issued grants to a total of 49 projects in three districts in the Biobío and Araucanía Regions.
The growth of this initiative has been exponential. It went from three districts and has already increased to 42, awarding totaling funding of more than one billion Chilean pesos, distributed over 1,576 non-profit social organizations’ projects.
The seventh edition of the grant will benefit neighbors from Maule to the Los Lagos Regions and also includes training non-profit community organizations that present projects for the direct benefit of their own members and the community overall.
