On International E-Waste Day: Reuse Campaign provides refurbished laptop computers in Villa Mininco to keep connecting territories

A entrega de computadores para os habitantes deste município rural da região de Araucanía faz parte do projeto Conectando Territorios liderado pelo País Digital em conjunto com a CMPC e seu compromisso com as comunidades locais. Os equipamentos doados fazem parte da campanha Reutiliza da Entel e Kyklos.

50 notebooks para apoiar o desenvolvimento de habilidades e competências digitais receberam os moradores da Villa Mininco, na região de Araucanía, graças à união da Fundación País Digital, CMPC, Entel e da empresa B de cultura ambiental Kyklos.

No dia da reciclagem eletrônica, foram entregues os equipamentos de informática reformados, que beneficiarão diretamente estudantes, idosos e pequenos e médios empreendedores, que já estão sendo instruídos em alfabetização digital.

Os aparelhos que compõem essa doação foram uma contribuição recebida da campanha da Entel #Reutiliza, gerenciada pela Kyklos. Essa iniciativa viaja o país coletando equipamentos eletrônicos em desuso, depois os envia para o Centro de Reciclagem Inclusiva, onde as pessoas com deficiência cognitiva recebem preparação para o trabalho, que segregam e diagnosticam os dispositivos. Neste mesmo centro o equipamento é recondicionado para ser doado.

Manuel Macaya, prefeito de Collipulli, reconheceu o progresso gerado graças à parceria público-privada: “Sou grato pelo papel social que as empresas estão tendo. É algo muito importante, porque aqui no bairro a comunicação é muito, muito ruim e hoje, com esse grande projeto, meus vizinhos da Villa Mininco estão muito orgulhosos, pois temos tecnologia dos computadores e internet gratuita”, disse.

Além disso, como parte dos projetos Conectando Territorios e CMPC Conecta, os habitantes da Villa Mininco já possuem internet em 12 pontos estratégicos que acessam por meio de wi-fi comunitário. O programa Conectando Territorios tem como objetivo proporcionar, por meio de parcerias público-privadas, acesso à conectividade e alfabetização digital às comunidades que permaneceram à margem do desenvolvimento tecnológico no Chile.

O gerente geral da Fundación País Digital, Fernando Sánchez, que trabalha pela conectividade e alfabetização digital de localidades vulneráveis e isoladas do nosso país, explicou o significado dessa entrega de computadores: “Melhorar a conectividade precisa ser acompanhado com a alfabetização digital dos habitantes da Villa Mininco. O uso adequado da internet facilita o aprendizado, a compreensão e o acesso à informação, também possibilita a realização de procedimentos on-line, como visitar a página do Registro Civil (poupa tempo) ou ChileAtiende e, inclusive, a entrega de mais ferramentas para que as pequenas e médias empresas possam crescer. ”

Entel’s Director of Sustainability Jimena Del Valle said, “It is very important to us to help provide computers in Mininco. This reflects Entel’s efforts in different areas of action, promoting the digital development of the community and reinforcing territorial connectivity, with improvements in mobile networks and free access to Wi-Fi for local residents. In addition, thanks to the Reutiliza Campaign, so far in 2022 we’ve managed to collect 7,000 unused electronic items, repairing more than 600 devices that are also in the donation process in different areas of the country,” she said.

Meanwhile, CMPC Deputy Manager of Corporate Affairs in Biobío Felipe Alveal highlighted the importance of the initiative carried out with the País Digital Foundation. “CMPC Connect has been implemented in some urban areas of Nacimiento and in Collipulli and has benefited residents of the town of Villa Mininco and Mapuche communities on Route R-22. The important thing about this project is that, in addition to facilitating internet access with free Wi-Fi, this helps reduce the digital divide while promoting communication, education and local development.”

Sebastián Herceg at Kyklos said, “We are very proud of the impact we are making through this campaign. There is an immense amount of this kind of electronic waste in the country and only 5% gets recovered, but with initiatives like this we are turning recycling into an opportunity for social inclusion.”

GRATEFUL NEIGHBORS

Petronila Necul, president of the Rural Drinking Water council of the Linco indigenous community in Collipulli expressed her thanks for this initiative. “Having a Wi-Fi connection and computers is a great step forward for us that is not only new, but very useful to the many schoolchildren and entrepreneurs who sell their products. Also as a leader, this helps us fill out our paperwork, so this is an excellent tool for us.”

Marisol Rodríguez is the coordinator of the Tripartite Roundtable of Villa Mininco, which brings together neighbors, the municipality and companies. “We are very happy as a community and as representatives of the organizations that are part of the Villa. Grateful for the opportunities and support provided by this project. We’ve experienced a fairly sizeable deficiency in terms of the internet, especially computers in general.”

Alejandra Riquelme is a professor at Villa Mininco who also expressed her gratitude for this project. She said, “I work a lot on computers using the internet, so this has made it much easier for me. We used to have a computer lab, but it didn’t have internet, so this is great for us. I teach the course on consumption and quality of life to adults and many didn’t even have email, so this has helped them all a great deal.”

Nicole Catrilef is a second-year student in adult education who will also benefit from the initiative. “I don’t have a computer either, so this is great, and it will continue to be useful for anyone who wants to continue their studies. With all this it is easier to study and even the teacher sometimes gets online when we are in the room, so this is really very good.”

The International Day of Electronic Waste, is held every October 14 and seeks to reduce the digital divide by collecting unused computers, tablets and cell phones in order to deliver them to those who need it most.
