Personal Hygiene Products Distributed to Shelter Residents in Biobío and La Araucanía Regions

Softys, a subsidiary of CMPC, provides supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, wet wipes and diapers. The coordination of these items is accomplished in cooperation with the Presidential Delegation of Biobío Province, Chile. Additionally, charcoal bags will be delivered and emergency kits will be distributed.

Efforts continue to be coordinated across various sectors to support Chileans affected by floods. For the past two days, CMPC has been operating from four command posts located in Los Angeles, Laja, Collipulli, and Nacimiento. It is active in 14 municipalities across Ñuble, Biobío, and La Araucanía regions.

Earlier today, the Disaster Risk Management Committee (COGRID) meeting was held at the Los Ángeles Mountain Outpost, which also serves as CMPC’s Meteorological Emergency Command center. The meeting addressed issues affecting the province, highlighting the situation in Nacimiento with road closures towards Santa Juana and a significant sinkhole blocking vehicle transit. It was reported that 700 homes were affected in Biobío Province.

Carlos Rodríguez, CMPC’s North Relations Deputy Manager, stated, “As a company, we are committed to continuing the work we’ve done since minute one of this emergency: prioritizing people’s safety and minimizing complications. Secondly, we aim to support those affected by floods and their properties. Thirdly, we are helping restore connectivity through teams deployed across various communities with personnel and machinery.”

Furthermore, an exciting operation unfolded on-site as Softys, a CMPC Tissue subsidiary, delivered a truckload of personal hygiene products to be distributed across shelters in Biobío and La Araucanía regions. This initiative supplements the company’s increased field deployment on Thursday to respond to the emergency across affected regions.

The products were unloaded at two strategic points: the Los Ángeles Mountain Outpost and the municipality of Nacimiento. They were distributed to multiple shelters in Los Ángeles, Laja, San Rosendo, Mulchén, Nacimiento, Negrete, Santa Juana, and Collipulli.

The distribution of hygiene items brought by CMPC’s truck is coordinated with Provincial Delegate Paulina Purrán. This is to ensure efficient and effective delivery to those in greatest need.

Francisco Reveco, CMPC’s Industry Relations Deputy Manager, emphasized CMPC’s commitment to immediate community support. He noted, “Alongside this delivery, we’ve secured 2,000 bags of charcoal from Lumaco, crucial for drying flooded homes. Additionally, we’re actively assembling emergency kits tailored for Nacimiento and Laja.”

It is worthwhile to note that CMPC’s aid includes 3,200 packs of paper towels, 6,600 rolls of toilet paper, 1,000 packs of wet wipes, 1,360 packs of baby diapers, 480 packs of adult diapers, and 7,680 packs of sanitary pads.
