The Second Version of the Monte Verde Mountain Marathon Was Held with Over 500 Competitors in Curacautín, Chile
The second version of the trail running competition, characterized by running amid native forest trails and reaching the finish line after various distances that are generally accompanied by mud and rain in this time of year, was held in the sector of San Nicolás, in the Araucanía Region. It is one of the sports attractions in the area.
Defying various slopes and testing the body and mind, trail runners came from different corners of Chile to participate in the second version of the Monte Verde Mountain Marathon in the Araucanía Region, in the central-southern area of the country. The competition was organized by the Sendero Los Volcanes Club and supported by the Municipality of Curacautín and CMPC. The race took place over two days: the longest distances, 42K and 28K, were run on Saturday, June 3rd; on Sunday, the sporting event featured the 18K, 12K and 5K distances, the last one a family run.
Through its spokesman Ricardo Quintana, the Sendero Los Volcanes Club, organizer of the event, highlighted the participation of the runners who attended the race. “In its second version, this mountain marathon, whose slogan is the battle of mud, proved that many athletes are delighted to participate during the fall or winter because the climate factor, mud and rain, adds new challenges for them. Meanwhile, for us, the challenge is to promote outdoor sports and the healthy competition that takes place among trail running athletes.”
In turn, Gustavo Apablaza, community relations assistant manager of CMPC, valued this initiative that brought together families from various places of the country. “Supporting these types of sporting events, such as trail running, which gathers athletes and families, is fundamental to promoting activities connected with forests and mountains.”
